The Douglas A-4M Skyhawk was a specialized variant of the A-4 series, developed for the U.S. Marine Corps to enhance combat performance and survivability. Introduced in the early 1970s, it featured a more powerful Pratt & Whitney J52-P-408 engine, improved avionics, a strengthened airframe, and an upgraded cockpit with a heads-up display (HUD) for better pilot situational awareness.

This 1:48 kit, produced by Magic Factory, is a brand-new tooling and only their second aircraft release to-date. It showcases impressive detail, thoughtful engineering, and modern design elements, making it a promising addition to their growing lineup.

For my build, I was immediately drawn to one of the two in-box marking options for aircraft BuNo. 158148, the first A-4M ever built. It featured a high-visibility black and white paint scheme while serving with the U.S. Navy Air Test Center at Naval Air Station Patuxent River in February 1975.
